Our purpose
A reading room for history
Centuries Untold is two things: a reference desk that finds you real sources on a historical topic, and a forum where people argue about what those sources mean.
It is not an archive. We hold no manuscripts and publish no scholarship of our own. What we do is narrower and, we hope, more useful. We point you at work that exists, tell you what we can verify about it, and then get out of the way.
Who is behind it

I started my YouTube channel to shed light on history through the lens of truth, not through the lens of whoever happened to win.
Most of what people believe about the past, they believe because a summary of a summary told them so. The document itself is usually stranger, and usually more interesting.
A primary source will not flatter you. It was not written for you. That is exactly what makes it worth reading.
The archive is not neutral. Somebody chose what to keep, and somebody chose what to let rot. Learning to ask who chose, and why, is most of the discipline.
I would rather someone leave this site with a good question than with a confident answer.
